Our Mission

Why AbleGamers Exists

Creating opportunities that enable play in order to combat social isolation, foster inclusive communities, and improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.

We know that social isolation is one of the biggest problems that people with disabilities face today — and that the power of play is a dynamic solution to this issue. We empower people with disabilities to forge meaningful connections that aren’t confined by their geographic location or abilities.

We also know that by working together, we can turn accessibility into a mainstream conversation. We’ve seen it happen in the more than two decades since AbleGamers was founded in 2004, and the more people we reach, the more ambitious and expansive the accessibility conversation becomes.

How We Live Our Mission

Three ways AbleGamers turns this mission into action every day.

1

Equip

We provide accessible gaming solutions — specialized controllers, hardware, software, and expert advice — so more people can play.

2

Train

We connect people with disabilities to each other and to the wider gaming community, building relationships that aren’t limited by geography or ability.

3

Build Community

We put people with disabilities in positions of power: the power to influence the games they play, help one another, and shape a more inclusive industry.

Training Studios, Too

Training is not just for players — we bring it to the studios building their games.

Through Accessibility Unlocked, AbleGamers also trains game studios directly. APX (Accessible Player Experiences®) is our design language for accessible game development, giving developers a shared way to find and solve accessibility barriers in their games at every stage — so more games are built accessible from the start.
